Benefits of Teaching Online

Online instructors have many benefits. Imagine never having to deal with tardy students, absences, disruptions, school violence, fire drills, or even getting up in the morning and driving to work. These benefits are huge and cannot be overestimated. But precisely because it allows for so much freedom, online teaching requires a lot of self-discipline.

Another surprising benefit of online instruction is that it allows you to really get to know your students, sometimes even better than in the traditional classroom. This is because a traditional class might consist of thirty students that a teacher sees for only fifty minutes each day. It is impossible to truly connect with each and every student — there is just not enough time. However, online learning provides one-on-one learning opportunities as teachers call and talk to their students. There is an opportunity to get to know them as people and not just as pupils in a classroom.

Parents can also become much more involved in their kids' education through an online learning environment. Many online schools provide parents with access to their children's work and send them monthly progress reports. Teachers are usually required to call and talk to parents at least once a month. Many traditional-school parents never hear from their students' teachers the entire year!
