Online Education - What Are Telecourses?

Online courses are becoming more and more prevalent in today's society. You can now study practically any subject and earn any degree, even a PhD! You may notice that some universities over something called "telecourses". So, just what are telecourses and what can you expect from them?

For distance learning, telecourses include something like a videotaped lecture that you view on the internet. Some even include a webinar, which is a live seminar you watch on the internet. A few of the larger universities have gotten with the techie generation and have started offering Podcasts as part of their coursework. All of this material is used to supplement the textbook for the course.
Telecourses cover the same basic material as the traditional campus courses. However, there are different methods of instructional delivery and attendance requirements. These courses are typically more convenient for students as well. Bear in mind, though, that some telecourses are not true online courses. Some will require you to meet a few times over the course of the semester.

Similar to online courses, telecourses are not for everyone. You must be self motivated in your studies and extremely good at time management. You must also be able to work independently, with little instruction from the professor. Telecourses are a great option for busy adults. They give you a certain amount of control over the pace of your learning. If you don't understand something the first time, you can rewind the tape and view it again, something you can't do with traditional lectures. If you are looking for a different way to earn your degree, telecourses may be just the thing for you.
